Back to Blue

Ramadan is over. As the most celebrated month of the Islamic calendar folded up, everything now is back to normal, everyone is back to work and I am back to blue. Gone were the days for daytime dreaming and midnight jaunt. For one month that our office hours have been reduced by a third, I felt like a caged bird that was freed for a moment, hanging around and searching for salvation. For one month that I have not taken any breakfast or lunch, I trimmed down some weight without a conscious diet. For one month, I have communed with my inner self and enjoyed the things that truly made myself happy, that kind of happiness that emanates from within, without price and without company.

With barely a month left to spend in the office, glad my supervisor has taken his annual vacation, my remaining days can prove to be more useful than sorry. What lies head is still something that I haven’t figure out. Just hope my qualifications work better for me this time. My current job is tolerable, but my supervisor makes it unbearable. In this land of opportunities, I always get the best jobs, sadly I always end up with someone who doesn’t want to see me happy.

I will start to watch time as it moves at each second of it. Once in a
while, I will take a glimpse at stillness hoping it will run as fast as a raging stallion. Oh time! why couldn't you just leave and comes back when darkness has enveloped the entirety. So that I wont' have to carry a cross of just having too much time to do nothing at an undesirable place and with terribly undesirable people.

I am trying and I have tried hard enough. It just wouldn't fit. Either it's too loose or too tight.

Broke my Heart

Somebody has just broke my heart today.

I shouldn’t be feeling down. But it just isn’t fair. No one has the right to judge someone else knowing him only for a month. Simply because he joins you for lunch doesn’t mean you can poke fun at him just the way you want it.

I never really needed officemates for a friend or befriend people below my class. It’s a scary feeling taking chances. When friendship becomes too good for comfort like when they are already dwelling on your personal lives and making fun out of it, then I would rather be friendless. I would prefer to be unattached than to have people misjudging you without regards and treating you as ordinary as themselves.

There is a boundary between a joke and insinuation. Done once is ok, but three to four times, it’s already something else. If he is not saying anything against it doesn’t mean that it's fine. Maybe he’s already hurting from someone else’s tactlessness and indiscretion.

A Day in the Office

It was a little uncomfortable day for me at the office, not because I wasn’t prepared but I was too overwhelmed. Upon my superior’s advice, I seated in the management budget meeting as an observer. There to participate in the said exchange of intellectual opinions were the company COO, the CEO, the Sales Manager, Business Support Managers and other Executives. Though I haven’t really participated in the discussions (well trust me, nobody in the same level as mine would want to sit there in the same place and with the same people), I listened intently to what they were arguing about though most of the times i got lost in translation as majority of them were Germans and French who speak a little different English than what we do.

Almost a World Peace

Good news everyone, my near month of stay and job hunting here in Dubai has finally paid off. I now got a job! Its relatively easy compared to the first time that i was here. After the interview in the morning, i received a call later in the afternoon informing me that the company was interested in hiring my services as Accountant. Wow! that was fast and i needed it badly. All in all, i had seven interviews with five (5) companies. I told you its easy, it just takes some brave statements and honest representations during interviews. No need to impress, just be yourself and show them that you are worth their trust and confidence.

To attend to an interview could be a rattling experience especially if the person you are supposed to talk to do not clearly speak in the same way we do. But anyway, if the job is really meant for you, you are gonna get it no matter what. So here i compiled some of the familiar questions that were thrown at me during my interviews including my provocative responses and straight answers. Its actually like answering to a pageant judge and you are supposed to reply in some modestly applaudable words with thoughts of world peace in the end.

Manager : Are you ambitious?
Me : Not really, I am just normal.
Manager : What do you mean by being "normal"
Me : I just do what is asked of me, go on with my task without any advance thought of gettingnoticed or rewarded. Manager : So you dont wanna be promoted or say offered a higher position?
Me : I dont want to think about it that way. I believe as long as i am doing my job and i am doing it rightly, idont have to say to anyone that i need to be promoted. I think its not my responsibility to do it. Rewardscome when it is due.

Manager : Do you have any probelms working with people from other countries?
Me : Nope. None at all. I have done before with my previous company so working with people from nationalities wouldn't be a problem at all. Its fun actualy. You gotta learn of pretty new things, you gota learn their culture, their language and there's just plenty of new things to know.

Manager : What do you often do during your free time?
Me : Wel, back in the Philipines, i was a movie addict, i watch movies a lot, Here in Dubai, its quite different, so i just have to contend myself with surfing the internet during my idle hours.

Manager : How do you see yourself five years from now?
Me : You see, i got thre more other siblings going to college right now and its my responsibility to support them. So i just need to work and work doubly hard until they finish their courses. I think it will take me more than five years to be able to do that.

Manager: What character best describes you?
Me : Being responsible
